Bebek: Where Old Money Meets the Bosphorus

Bebek is perhaps Istanbul's most photographed waterfront neighbourhood — yachts, yalı mansions, and the iconic Bebek café scene create a setting that feels straight out of a novel.

Bebek occupies a small bay on the European shore of the Bosphorus, just north of Beşiktaş. Despite being one of the most desirable addresses in Istanbul, it retains a village-like character that makes it feel more intimate than its prestige would suggest.

The Bebek Lifestyle

Mornings in Bebek begin at the famous Bebek Badem Ezmesi pastry shop or at one of the waterfront cafés. The Bosphorus promenade fills with joggers and mothers with prams by 8am. Evenings are spent at the handful of excellent seafood restaurants overlooking the water.

Property

Bebek is one of Istanbul's most expensive neighbourhoods. Historic yalı waterfront mansions sell for $5–20 million. Modern apartments inland from the waterfront run $4,000–$7,000 per m² to buy, or ₺65,000–₺120,000 per month to rent.

Getting Around

Bebek has no metro station — the 25E bus and dolmuş minibuses are the main options. This adds character but also adds commute time. Most Bebek residents own cars or rely on taxis.
